Mendeley Desktop to Manage your Research Document

The people who are involve in doing research (like PhD student) have to study lots of paper. So they download lots of paper and save them in the computer. Now this is a headache for them to manage so large no paper and other document like book, thesis they have downloaded, so that they can be found easily. Again if you are using different computer in different place (suppose you have personal laptop and you have computer in lab) then it is very difficult keep track which paper we have downloaded in which computer and to sync them.

The problem can be solved easily. Thanks to Mendeley, a research cataloging tool for desktop and web. You can use it to manage all your paper, book, thesis, ….. from same place. You can search them very easily. You can synchronize them with your other computer. You can import document from any folder or file from your computer. You can directly generate bibliography citation for your document from Mendeley. There is a web importer plugin, which you can use directly import catalog from your browser. There is insert citation plugin for MS Office and Open Office which you can use to insert citation directly to your document in just one click and not leaving the document page. You can generate bibliography content of this document in just one click. You can change citation style and choose from the thousand of available citation style, according to your need.

When you import a document, Mendeley will automatically fetch all the necessary information (like Title, author, date of publication, journal, ………….etc. ). And if you think that any of these information are not correct you can change them easily. You can export the information in citation style in bibtex format. You can simply right click and copy the citation of any document and paste to any document, mail if you want.

There is an inbuilt pdf viewer with Mendeley. This is pretty good pdf viewer to read your document. It has feature like text highlight, comment etc, which will be very useful for reader.

Also in web form you can contact with lots of people, find people working on the same field. Can discuss with them. Can share ideas, catalog.

To get Mendeley just go to http://www.mendeley.com and then create an account. It will take no more than a couple of minute. Then you can download Mendeley for your desktop. It is available for Mac, Linux and Windows. Download and install it. Now when you will first time run it it require internet connection and will ask for login. Of course there is option to set your proxy if you are working under any proxy. After that you can work offline also, and when ever you will go online it will synch every thing. Obviously you have option to choose which are the thing that you want to sync and which are not.

I am using it and feel it is really very helpful software for the people who doing research.

Subtitle in latex

There is no direct command to define subtitle in latex. But you can define the \subtitle command using titling package. To do this just insert the following code in the preamble of the latex file. \usepackage{titling} \newcommand{\subtitle}[1]{%   \posttitle{%     \par\end{center}     \begin{center}\large#1\end{center}     \vskip0.5em}% } And then you can define subtitle using the following command. \subtitle{Subtitle Here} This will show the subtitle bellow your title when you use \maketitle command. Placing float (table or figure) at the top of the page in otherwise empty page in LaTeX

In latex if a table is going to any empty page (page with only that table and no other text), the table is always aligned vertically centre. And that does not look good always. Even the float place holder like [t] or [ht] or [t!] kind of things does not work.
