Hi This blog is for those people who actually getting bore using same interface from gnome in ubuntu. In that case kde can give you some fresh wind. Though the ubuntu distro with kde environment is kubuntu but still you can use kde in your ubuntu. It will actually install kde enviroment side by side. Just go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package. Now search for Kde desktop and install it. It will istall some required package and some kde default package together. Now when you start your system and your login screen is coming then at the button of the screen there is some option. From session option choose kde from dropdown menu. Then you will redirect to the kde environment. If you want to go back to the gnome environment then just logout and then select the "ubuntu desktop" session from dropdown menu of session option. New version of Ubuntu comes on every 6 month with most recent version of software and with, up to some extend, new look. If we don't want to continue with the old version of software and if bored with same look we want install the new version. If you want to upgrade your system then it is ok. But if you want a clean installation then you have to install all your required software and you have to do all setting ones again. This is very tedious job. Here are some tricks to simplify the job. First you can generate the list of installed software by using this command, dpkg --get-selections > installed-software This command will create a text file name installed-software. You can edit this file and if you want remove some software by simply deleting the line containing the name of the software. Now when you are installing Ubuntu do not format the home folder. In linux if you want to view document created by MS office as it exactly it should look like you have to install Microsoft core font. This font was first hosted by Microsoft in there website and any one can get it for free and can re distribute it. But now they have removed it but you can get it lot of third party software. In ubuntu you can install it from ttf-mscorefonts-installer using this command sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer But there is some bug with it which will stop it in middle and you will face same kind of problem as people faced trying to install flash plugin in Ubuntu. I guess this problem happens for those who are working under proxy. After this problem appear you can cancel installation and restart your computer. And then run this command in terminal. sudo dpkg --configure -a Still you will see some error massage as before. Wait for some time. Those people who are working in office and are student and use internet from there campus they frequently need to setup LAN connection to there computer to access internet. Here I am explaining how to set up LAN connection in windows 7. First go to control panel > network and Internet > network and sharing center > connect to a network   if you don't see the icon there please check that local area network is enabled in adepter setting. To check  network and sharing center and go to change adapter setting. and right click on the local area connection icon and enable it.  Now come to "connect to a network" and  click on the lan icon and then go to properties and then choose ipv6 or ipv4 as applicable (at iisc ipv4) and then click properties > set ip address of your computer in ip address field and fillup subnet mask , default gateway and DNS server  . cheers A Paul

Now a days bluetooth is one of the most common device that people use to listen music, or even talk with some one in phone or in laptop. Gmail and YahooMail are two most popular web based email (web mail) provider. Though this two provider provide lots of functionality for viewing, composing and storing mail which are really cool, but some time we need some desktop client. The good news is that we can get mail from this web based mail to our desktop email client. Here I am saying how to configure your email client to get this email. There are two protocol supported by Gmail, viz IMAP and POP only POP by YahooMail to get the email and SMTP to send email. Where IMAP is a two way synchronizing process, POP is one way process. But IMAP is little slow and POP is relatively faster. Here I will explain how to configure POP not IMAP which I will tell later.

There are many people who use dual booting and use two operating system together. Specially Linux and Windows. Most of the Linux user use Ubuntu. Ubuntu is very easy to use with very good interface. For dual booting with Ubuntu there is grubloader which loaded first and give you option which operating system you want to use. But some time you may destroy your grubloader. This generally happen when you repair your Windows os or reinstall the Window. In that case  You have to repair your grubloader again to get back your grubloader.

Flash plugin is one of the very important plugin of Internet Browser. To watch most of the online video (like YouTube video) and animated picture we need it. But there is a problem installing this plugin in Ubuntu, if you are working inside proxy. If you try to install it from synaptic package manager,  if you want to install it from .deb file or if you install from direct command. The package downloaded fine but when dpkg runs it shows problem. The only way it can be install seems to be in terminal with Ubuntu Restricted Extras. The code is as following: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extra But the worst thing happen when if try to install it and it stop installing. After that you can't open senaptic package manager, you can't open update manager, you can't install or uninstall any software in your system terminal and even you can't run the .deb file. Mozilla Thunderbird is a cross platform desktop email client which support both IMAP and POP protocol. This is a free open-source software. You can install the English version of software from this site,  http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/ . There are other language version also. Actually I have four email account in different provider, like Gmail, Yahoo and my Departmental email. So to check all email I have to open the different account.  Which is very boring and time consuming. So I use Desktop email client and check all mail together. Why I have chosen Mozilla thunder bird? There are other client like Outlook in window and Evolution Mail in Ubuntu (which is actually default client in Ubuntu). Hi everybody. As far I know the two best on line photo sharing site are Flickr and Picasa Web Album. We can share photo with our friend family. We have option whether we want to show the photo publicly or we can upload photo privately so that any one, other than whom with I am sharing photo, can't see my picture. You can use the link of the photos of from these site and use them in your site to show them. You can use them for slide show by using html code, which you can get from the site by using some simple step, which I will discus later.Here I will discus how can we insert photo slide show from Picasa or form Flickr to your blog. I use Googletoolbar for different purpose. It is very handy, we can save settings online. We can use google bookmark to save my bookmarks online and can use it from any computer having googletoolbar installed. It is a free small program provided by google. We can use variety site in just one click by using Google toolbar. Specially the sites like GMail, Google Calender, Blogger, Orkut and many other sites. This Buttons are provided by google and many other contributor around globe. I use GMail and Yahoo Mail, both simultaneously. So I want to save the Yahoo Mail link to my Google toolbar. I search the google toolbar button gallery for yahoo mail button. There are lots of button but not very good and they all have logo like a globe. Which does not look very good. I like Y! image logo for yahoo mail. I search how to change the logo of the google toolbar button but without luck. Then I search if there is any other way to add Yahoo Mail button in google toolbar that it will have the logo

I have tried to install Real Player in Ubuntu 9.10. I found a package in Real site and downloaded the .deb file as I will install it in Ubuntu. When I install the player, the installation process goes smoothly. But the problem is that when I was trying to play any kind of media it is showing that the player is not able to play back the media.

This is the first blog i created. I just came to know about this site from the even more link of the google product and just checking it. I don't know what is blog so I guess there will be lot of mistake but still it is an attempt. Thanks Apurba Paul
